Whether you're from Texas or you migrated here from somewhere else... you're in Texas now.  Drop that bag of fast food and have some BBQ.  It is a Texas tradition.  Pipin' hot smoked meats, topped with a savory bar-b-que sauce and good old fashion sides like cole slaw, potato salad, mashed potatoes, and corn.

Where to go?  Try Branch BBQ on Wells Branch Parkway.  It's a cozy, family BBQ, neighborhood restaurant.  If you don't live in the neighborhood, you may have never even heard of them.  But Branch BBQ has been doin' their thing for many years and doin' it well.  Even if you've never been there before, you'll feel right at home.  And then there's the food...

For starters, all of their meats are smoked in house using Live Oak.  (which is slower burning than mesquite)  All the better to ensure delicious and tender, very moist meats.  Plus, they use the good stuff like Elgin Sausage. (an Austin favorite for many moons)  And of course, no BBQ is complete until you have mouth-watering BBQ sauce.  They haven't started bottling their sauce yet, but they certainly should be.

It was really hard to try and pick a favorite at this place.  We really enjoyed the chicken. (cooked just right)  But the pork loin, brisket and sausage were great too.  Likely we would recommend the 3-Meat combo plate or the 5-Meat Branch Sampler.  Then you get the opportunity to sample a few.  You'll find the expected favorites like ribs, chopped beef, brisket, sausage and chicken, and even smoked catfish or a Chicken Fried Steak Sandwich.  We happened to eat at Branch BBQ on a Friday, and on Fridays they make a home-made Chicken and Dumplings plate.  (Top Notch)  You definitely will want to drop by for that.  See?  Hard to pick a favorite.

Party time?  Catering events with super bar-b-que is their specialty.  They have aggressively positioned the catering prices to make you take notice.  Three meats, three sides and all of the bread, pickles and onions you'll need.  Plus, tea or water, cups and ice included for $7.50 per person.  Find out more about the catering.
