What do you order when eating Chinese food? Sesame, Kung Pao, or maybe even Lo Mein? One place we've been dining at for almost 15 years is China Cafe, next to Alamo Drafthouse at Lake Creek Pkwy and Research. After multiple visits and the many different dishes we've tried... we have never been disappointed.
China Cafe has a family-casual, atmosphere with a standard Asian decor and lots of people dining in or picking up orders to take home. If you work close enough to have lunch there, you'll find the price is right, the service is right, and the food will leave you ready to come back the next day.
A couple of highly recommended plate of theirs would be the Kung Pao Chicken or Sesame Chicken/Shrimp. Having tried these dishes at many other restaurants here and even in other cities, it has really been a stand out. The same goes for the Calamari with spiced salt. The spiced salt really does something special for this appetizer. We have tried Calamari at many restaurants, and though we liked it at most, very few are as tasty.
China Cafe makes all of the dishes you would expect to find at a Chinese restaurant, and puts their own finesse on each. This restaurant makes FANTASTIC Egg Rolls! Seriously, we could call in and order nothing but the Egg Rolls and be very happy. Here's a tip... We recommend if you are ordering take out from any restaurant, that you ask for your Egg Rolls to be in a paper bag, not in the container with the meal. This ensures they will be just as crisp as they are when dining in.
Whether there's two, four, or fifteen in your group, they can handle it. China Cafe also delivers in a limited area of Austin. Give them a try and email us with your thoughts. We look forward to your comments.
