We have heard good things about "Exotic Thai" located at the corner of Braker and North Lamar in the Asian Center. What we heard was right on track. This is just a small restaurant which probably seats about 30 to 40 people at a time and the have a party room seperate from the main dining area.
It's a quiet family style atmosphere, and boy did we like the food. Each time we go to a new place lately it seems that the appetizers really get our attention, and this place was no different. We absolutely were head over heals after trying the "Steam Thai Dumplings" a steamed wonton skin wrapped around ground chicken and garnished with carmelized bits of garlic. WOW! Seriously, if there weren't lots more food to try, we would have ordered more. Let this be a lesson... try an different appetizer everytime you eat out.
Now Tilapia is not one of our favorites, but Exotic Thai has come up with a way to prepare it that we really enjoyed. They call it Pra Rad Prik and they deep fry the fish to give it a great crunchy outside and tender fish inside. Then they smother it in a delicious, spicy red curry sauce. Very good.
Something we never tried before was the Thai Ice Tea, (they wanted us to try it) which is a creamy beverage that when brought to you has a froth like top, then you stir it. It reminds us of a sweet coffee drink but totally unique from anything we've had before. (also loved it)
We also recommend the Combination Seafood plate. With shrimp, squid, crab, fish, and mussels sauteed in a curry/ginger paste, we seafood lovers were satisfied.
We love getting good food served that also pretty to look at. And Exotic Thai obviously takes time to prepare each dish so that it's asthetically pleasing and of course that it makes your taste buds sing. Next time you're eating lunch or dinner out, give 'em a try.
