The Oasis has been an Austin favorite for over 25 years.  Then in 2005 they lightning struck this Lake Travis hot spot and the fire that followed left them with only a portion of their dining decks still usable.  This left them needing to rebuild and that's just what they've done.  If you haven't been to the Oasis since their elaborate rebirth, you'll want to go and check it out for yourself.

The popular lake restaurant which was once subject to the whim of the weather is now bigger and better with indoor and outdoor seating, and lots of it.  Which means you can enjoy it regardless of the weather.  They can seat parties of 200 to 2000 people. (large wedding party maybe) We think the finished product is a beautiful, true to Austin flavor restaurant and are pleased to be the ones telling you about it.  If it's possible the Oasis should be even more popular than it was before.  They still have dancing lessons on Sunday and Monday, (a very cool little perk of this place) and live music on the weekends.

But that's not all they've done.  There's a new menu with great food and of course fantastic Margaritas and other drinks.  One of our favorites... the Pulled Pork Rellenos.  (excellent dish)  It's red chile braised pork, generously stuffed into Tecate beer battered Anaheim chiles then fried till they are golden brown with a red chile sauce and crema Mexicana drizzled over the top.  It's served on a bed of Spanish rice with black beans on the side as well as guacamole, sour cream, pico de gallo, cheese and tortillas. (a must try item)

Another top pick... the Grilled Shrimp Diablo.  Now we've been served plates with a similar name in several other places, but the Oasis has their own unique twists on this one.  You'll get large (apple smoked) bacon wrapped shrimp with a savory barbque sauce brushed over them.  We really like bacon wrapped shrimp in the first place, but the sweet flavor that accompanies it is amazing.  They serve Tex Mex, seafood, steak, sandwiches and salads.  Which by the way the Chicken Pecan salad makes a beautiful presentation with large plate full of flavor.

We've been to the Oasis many times before, but this latest visit was by far our favorite.  If you're new to town and haven't ever been...  The Oasis is the perfect place to chill out with friends, drinks and absolutely breath taking views of the sun setting over Lake Travis.  You will love it!    click here to see more Oasis pictures
