We stopped by EZ's Brick Oven and Grill in Central Austin yesterday.  We've been there many times over the years and always love their burgers.  Yesterday was a little test of their Gluten Free pizza.  Having some of our Dining512 tipsters tell us that the Margherita Pizza was awesome, we decided to try it without that pesky wheat that has become a problem for so many people in the last few years.  That includes some who are closest to us.

Having some experience on the subject, diners looking for good gluten free options in Austin's Restaurant scene used to be a pain in the backside.  Most times the gluten free items were just missing the mark on actually being good food.  Now, with a higher awareness among restaurateurs, the choices have gotten much better.  So, with love and care for our closest and the tons of others suffering from wheat allergies, we've decided to do a little more checking on this.  

EZ's served us (as always) another wonderful bacon cheeseburger, and their gluten free pizza was just as good as getting the regular style.  The one limitation?  Gluten free pizza crusts only ever seem to come in a small (8") size.  But that worked for us on this day anyway.  Loved the pesto sauce on this one too!  As usual, we'll be back.  EZ's has been around for many years, and don't get mentioned much in the "Austin Elite" groups, but being native Austinites, we really appreciate healthy portions of just good ol' cookin.  This is one place where you won't find your entrée looking like a couple of hors d'oeuvres.
